4 months... and the stomach bug

Kira was 4 months on Monday! How time has flown... Here are the events of the past week... Last Saturday we went swimming! :-) Pictures coming soon... She seemed to enjoy it. Since the smallest swim diapers Huggies makes is for 16 pounds and up, I ended up getting PUL fabric and making two pairs for her! :-P The temp Sat was super nice! ...almost 80... Then on Sunday, the dust and cold front came through and dropped the temp into the 50s.

So she came down with the stomach bug Tuesday - which included one session of projectile vomiting, and going on 3 days now of diarrhea... tmi, I know... sorry... Other than frequent diaper changes, she seems to be doing ok. No major fevers or restlessness or anything like that. :-) Yay! Top that off with getting her 4month shots yesterday, and she has slept most of the day today...

Finally got all the photos off my cameras!

...so I will be getting them posted here hopefully in the next few days to week... Yay! In the meantime, as I get the pictures uploaded and posted, I will back-date them to the dates the events occurred. Please scroll down for all the stories, and come back often - I can't get 9.5 weeks worth of stories up in one sitting!

It's Officially Official!

My Christmas present... I LOVE IT!!! Brock was going to, and then he wasn't (or said he wasn't), then was going to get me an iPad instead, then decided to... and "hid" the ring inside his mom's iPad box - to make me think I was getting an iPad... that sneak! Of course I said yes! No dates set - not even rushing to set one. What a huge year for both of us! I love you Brock!

Sharing my Birthday

Kira's 3 weeks old today... and I'm 37... years, not weeks... :-) Here she is spending a little "tummy time", officially her first, on her Boppy. I had a nice day with her being calm and peaceful, and capping off the evening at Outback for dinner with her and Brock.

Biliblanket

So Kira was born with a couple problems... Firstly, because I was hyperthyroid throughout the pregnancy and on meds, she was born hypothyroid... which by her second blood test, had completely tipped the other end of the scale and ended up causing her to by hyperthyroid like me. The docs felt it was probably due to my hyperthyroidism - that her thyroid was initially supressed due to the meds being passed onto her from me... then jumping to the other end of the spectrum when those meds wore off and her thyroid kicked in to fight off the _____ that had passed to her through the placenta.

This resulted in the docs wanting me to not breastfeed, so that her thyroid could normalize... between that and her being super tired, she didn't get enough fluids passing through her during the first few days and she ended up slightly jaundiced.

So we got to put her on UV light treatment at home for a week or so, although during that week, we ended up at Providence Children's Hospital in El Paso for 3 days (more in another post)... Here she is wrapped up in her bili-blanket :

First night home...

(11/21/2011)
In her crib... she really was too little to sleep lengthwise:

So I turned her and let her sleep width-wise...

The blanket under her was one I crocheted... not completed yet though - it's supposed to have crocheted flowers and butterflies on it... I might get to it one day... maybe.

And no, I didn't let her sleep by herself the first night... :-)

We get to go home today - Dr. Ortiz was going to let me stay another day, but Kira was discharged by the Pediatrician, so we're headed home... But first, all the "bracelets" I got to wear while in the hospital:
Here's Kira peacefully swaddledShe wasn't too happy to be dressed up to go home... This outfit was from one of Brock's co-workers, Rachele:

All bundled up and settled in her carseat for her first ride home:

Flowers from Mary and Skip (from their backyard!)... and me and Kira settled in the backseat for our ride home.

Sunday 11-20-2011

Sunday is football day... Daddy is a Cowboys fan, so here's Kira's Cowboy's outfit... Only, she was too little for a 0-3 onsie, so we laid everything at the head of her little bassinet. I made the cowgirl hat and boots (which, by the way, was almost too small for her, even though I made them to a 0-3 size)...

Here are the pictures that Grandma (Brock's mom) took on her iPad:

Welcome Kira!

So Kira was due on Nov. 28... At my OB visit on Nov 18 (1pm), the doc decided my blood pressure was too high (it had been slowly rising over the past few weeks), and had me go to L&D...

This was me at 2:30pm, after getting admitted into L&D... I guess it was a good thing we had put the labor bag in the truck before the dr's visit...

They got me started on Cytotec... and then changed to Pitocin after 2 doses...

and this is where Brock got to sleep that night...

Here's the board the next morning (19th):

By 10:30pm, I had progressed to a "9", then regressed to a "7", and the doctor said I had to have a C-section... boo... Here's Brock in operating room gear:

...and at 10:59pm, Kira was born via C-section.
Here she is getting cleaned up by the nurse (~1:30am, 11/20)

...and finally with mommy at 2am:
